In reflecting on the "Outlaw" theme of the collection, Gus' thoughts immediately turned to the current cultural and political climate in their home country, Brazil. In recent years, Brazil has experienced what many in the country view as nothing short of an economic, political, social, and environmental crisis. Intolerance, income inequality, and distrust of the government are on the rise as tensions in the country have seemingly never been higher. In dark times like these, Gus believes that it takes an brave, independent person to simply be honest, trustworthy, and charitable.

In these times, the true Outlaws are those rare few who still attempt to better themselves, better others, and contribute to the world in a positive way. In "The Good Fight," Gus interprets the inherent danger, amidst the current Brazilian climate, of lending a hand to your neighbor. They show that the real Outlaws are those that can reach out, in the face of dangerous consequences, to create a more peaceful and understanding world.

gustavomagalhaes.work

Gustavo Magalhães is a Brazilian artist based in São Paulo. After 10 year as an illustrator and living in the music and arts scene, he developed an unique and embracing style with a multidisciplinary range. His work has a handmade touch with a strong and organic sense of design and typography with huge influence from 90's alternative comics, tattoo and punk rock. His pieces are inspired by vintage textures, old matchbooks, zines, and the art of French illustrator and cartoonist Moebius (aka Jean Giraud). Their biggest inspiration, however, is the Brazilian crew BICICLETA SEM FREIO, who Gus cites as the reason he decided to open a design studio. He's one of the founders of Miopia, a Brazilian creative studio, focused on print and merchandise, with a human and handmade touch, working along for bands and brands worldwide. A good portion of the studio's projects were done in collaboration with Carol Maia, his life and former studio partner. Since launching in 2015, Gus has always placed a high priority on the manual processes involved in the pieces he creates (hand-drawn sketches, brush work, tracing, etc.). This dedication to craft, combined with his myriad of unqure influences, imbues his work with an original, organic, and edgy style all its own.
