Abby's design for our Tropical Collection is so good you can almost taste it! With a brightly colored bouquet of tropical fruits, we're instantly transported to a beachside stand in Playa Del Carmen, Abby's favorite tropical location. Just imagine -- your bandana blowing in the ocean breeze as you stroll along the water, sipping a freshly blended smoothie (or something stronger) as a distant rhythm plays. There's just something about fruit in a tropical location that hits a little different.

"Picked From Paradise" also brilliantly highlights Abby's choice of The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation as the charity that her design will give back to. This beautiful bandana pays tribute to their mission (more in the Charity section below) and keeps the warm, tropical vibes going on multiple levels. Tie on this design to bring a little taste of the Tropics wherever your next adventure takes you!

Based in Portland, Maine, visual artist Abby Leighton's colorful creations are deeply inspired by nature. She finds endless inspiration through her love of National Parks, natural wonders, and the way that nature designs its own colors, landscapes, and formations. Through illustration, graphic design, and film photography, Abby channels the outdoors into incredible, highly intentional design projects. Most notably, Abby wrote, planned, illustrated, and hand-lettered "National Parks Maps," a book of illustrated maps of every single National Park that was published in 2021 and won GOLD for children’s nonfiction in the 2021 Foreword Indies Awards. When she's not designing for iconic clients like Adobe, NBC Universal, and Marvel, you can find Abby with a bandana tied into a headband, driving down winding backroads, shooting on her film camera, or curating the perfect Spotify playlist. We're huge fans of Abby's, and could not be more excited to share her bandana design with the world!

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation is an award-winning international charity dedicated to planting fruit, nut and medicinal trees to alleviate world hunger, combat global pollution of the environment, strengthen communities, and improve the surrounding air, soil, and water.

Their programs strategically donate orchards, training, and aftercare where the harvest will best serve communities for generations -- including public schools, city parks, community gardens, food banks, low-income neighborhoods, Native American reservations, international hunger relief sites, and animal sanctuaries. They work with communities across the world, including Indigenous communities such as the Hopi tribe in Arizona, to help restore their ancient culture and techniques of orchard keeping.

Abby told us that she chose the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation because, in her words, "I believe almost every community in the world could benefit from incorporating their practices into their lives because it’s a fantastic way to learn to grow your own food, sustain your own community, and keep your food organic & local."
