Sandro's "Fun In The Sun" bandana design bursts with the bold colors of the Florida coast that he calls home. In his words, Sandro explains "I live on a little island in Northeast Florida where the river feeds into the ocean. There is an abundance of wildlife in my backyard, from pelicans and ospreys in the air to alligators and dolphins out on the water." Drawing on the inspiration from these coastal characters, Sandro imparts his signature style to create a design thats as fun to wear as it is to look at.

It's hard not to smile with Sandro's happy cartoon gator and whistling suns accessorizing your favorite adventure outfit. So go with it, and think of it as a reminder not to take things too seriously! As Sandro explains, "Art can be a tool for many things, but for me it’s place of escapism and joy. My biggest hope with this design is that it makes someone smile and that they see a bit of themselves in it."

Dusty Nomad is the artist moniker of Sandro Young, an illustrator/designer/human based in Jacksonville, Florida. A self-described "late-bloomer," Sandro began designing as Dusty Nomad at the age of 27 with no formal training or education. Sandro grew up in Minnesota, and cites Charles Schultz as his primary artistic influence (and cartoon characters like Schultz's Snoopy as responsible for his interest in art). Those early influences are evident in Sandro's own colorful characters, which he says are inspired by "a combination between being a dad and never really growing up myself." And indeed, his designs are like a ticket back to childhood - brimming with the perfect mixture of nostalgia, wonder, vibrant tones, and genuine wide-eyed enthusiasm. Since starting as Dusty Nomad, Sandro has created fun and funky designs to brands like Patagonia, The North Face, Marmot, Crocs, Roark, Surfrider Foundation, and a long list of smaller operations (he also has some great pieces available for sale on his own online shop!). In addition to his incredible work, Sandro is also a husband and dad (to kids and dogs alike).

Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville

Founded in 1973, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville (CCGJ) has been enriching life in Northeast Florida by investing in Arts and Culture for over 50 years. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and the official Local Arts Agency (LAA) by ordinance for the City of Jacksonville. Through grantmaking, public art, support of individual artists, the organization is committed to bringing More. Art. Culture. to every corner of their community.

In Sandro's words, "I love this city (Jacksonville). My wife is from here, I got married here, my kids were born here, so it only makes sense to give back to an organization that is supporting the local arts scene. With increasing attention given to machine learning it’s more important than ever to support humans making art."

We're honored to team up with Sandro to support this incredible organization!
