For artist Kelley Wills (aka Brainflower Design) the idea of the West feels best represented by the over 4500 wild horses that still run free primarily on BLM-managed land in Southeast Oregon. That wild spirit also runs as a through line in Kelley's personal story. Originally hailing from South Carolina, she always felt drawn Westward - eventually settling in her current home of Eugene, Oregon. In her words, "the rugged terrain and independent nature (of Oregon) made me feel at ease and gave me a sense of belonging."

The title "New Moon" is a nod to Kelley's new chapter in the West and how it's allowed her to grow as an artist. Much like the unbridled horses in this beautiful bandana design, the West has allowed Kelley to the freedom to run, to grow, and to step into her highest potential. As she explained the move was "an opportunity to shed old patterns and enter new cycles of growth and exploration."

Brainflower is the artist moniker of Eugene, Oregon based illustrator and designer Kelley Wills. Her work is heavily inspired by drives through rural landscapes surrounding her Oregon home, where she loves to hike and garden when she's not creating. Her love of antiques, estate sales, and old botany books is also evident in her work - which has a unique "lived in" quality that instantly transmits a sense of ease, relatability, and comfort. What truly sets Kelley's work apart, though, is an underlying "outlaw" sensibility. Rooted in her love of musicians like Merle Haggard, Marty Robbins, and Bob Weir, along with self-taught folk artists like Clementine Hunter, Bill Traylor, and and Henry Darger - there is an informality and increasingly rare authenticity to her work that runs counter to alot of the polished "sameness" we see in the design world. As you might imagine - we here at BANDITS always love an Outlaw, and we're honored to share Kelley's work with our community!

Green Hill Humane Society

Greenhill Humane Society has been caring for animals in Lane County, Oregon since 1944. They operate the only animal shelter within the Eugene/Springfield area. Their programs include animal adoptions, reuniting lost animals with their families, disaster response, crisis care boarding in situations of domestic violence, medical emergencies, and other crisis situations, spay/neuter for free roaming, un-owned community cats, a pet pantry, on-site volunteer opportunities, and foster care and humane education.

Last year, they had 5797 total shelter and clinic intakes, made 2833 adoptions into loving homes, and had 1089 pet reunions for animals. In addition, they provided 1583 cat spay/neuter surgeries to assist cat caregivers in reducing feral cat over-population.

Kelley chose to support Greenhill with her bandana design specifically due to their dedication to treating animals with compassion and respect. As the only animal shelter in Eugene area, they also provide a vital service to Kelley's hometown community. We're proud to team up with Kelley to support this amazing organization!
