Raised in rural Texas, artist Van Berkemeyer (aka Berkmade) grew up with dreams of being a cowboy. He idolized Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and wouldn't be caught dead in town without his boots on. In his 20's he spent time training horses and running fences for a ranch in Oklahoma. And now he makes his living designing for boot brands, country artists, and western organizations. It's safe to say that west is in his blood.

Van told us that "the west has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. All my heroes growing up were cowboys. It's always given be a feeling of freedom, individuality, and pride." Drawing on a lifetime of experience in the west, this bandana design is Van's commentary on the staying power of the west's in the collective cultural memory. As he explained, "even though the west has changed with technology, oil rigs, and progress... it can never truly be tamed. It lives on in the hearts of cowboys and cowgirls who carry on the legacy."

Berkmade

Berkmade is the moniker of Nashville, TN based artist and illustrator Van Berkemeyer. Though he works primarily with bands and brands, he also enjoys getting his hands dirty - as evidenced by his murals that can been seen around Nashville. Van's work is heavily influenced by his upbringing in rural Texas and time spent working on a ranch in Oklahoma. The legacy of the West, its landscapes, and themes of untamed individualism are beautifully represented in his work. However, in Van's words "I find inspiration everywhere I go. Fellow artists, sitting on my rocking chair on my back porch, the music I listen to, and riding the rural roads around Nashville on my Harley Davidson." Van is also a accomplished songwriter, which he also credits for keeping his creativity sharp and ideas flowing. In addition to this incredible bandana, you can spot Berkmade work on designs for artists like Chris Stapleton, Zac Brown Band, and Lainey Wilson, along with multiple music festivals, the Houston Rodeo, and brands like Lucchese, Kendra Scott, and Carhartt.

People Loving Nashville

At People Loving Nashville, they believe no one should go without food, shelter, or meaningful connection—and that no one who wants to help should feel powerless to do so. Everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and given a chance to thrive. The organization exists to share love and dignity to those experiencing homelessness in Nashville. They do this by providing relief, community, connection, and restoration.

People Loving Nashville was established in 2008 when a group of friends shared several hot meals with some individuals living on the streets on a cold Thanksgiving night. The experience changed something in them, and they continued to bring supper downtown once a month. Once a month soon turned into a weekly tradition. From a two-burner stove in a bachelor pad to a commercially-outfitted kitchen at church, we have continued to grow and expand, learning and maturing along the way, all against the backdrop of friendship.

Van is actively involved with this organization, explaining that "Every Monday we go downtown and serva a hot meal, pass out clothing and remind our friends that are living on the street that they are seen and loved." BANDITS is proud to team up with Van to support the incredible work that people Loving Nashville is doing within their community.
