If you've ever camped overnight in the wilderness, you're probably familiar with the idea that nature truly comes alive at night. When the sun dips below the horizon, a symphony of sound and activity seems to erupt from the darkness. In the remote desert of Northeast Utah, artist Holls Walck (aka Pine Bones) is no stranger to this phenomenon. However, while some may see this as something scary, Holls takes a more lighthearted approach in their "Electric Desert Parade" design.

In the design, coyotes, rabbits, moths, owls, snakes and other desert creatures step out of the shadows into an intricate dance amongst the desert flora. The animals and plants glow with bioluminescent energy under the moon, stars, and a few stray comets. So don't hide in your tent, this bandana design is your exclusive invite to a cosmic party, raging just beyond the veil of night.

Pine Bones is the moniker of Queer, AuHD, multidisciplinary artist Holls Walck. Based in the remote desert of Southeast Utah, their work is inspired by the environment and ecology that surrounds them. Focusing on elements such as hydrology, selenography, desert textures, native flora & fauna, Holls' illustrations are a personal reflection of their experiences and relationships with the sacredness of the natural spaces they encounter & dwell. Naturally, creatures (especially desert creatures) play a outsized role in much of Holls' work. In considering their design for our "Creature Collection," they cited the Coyote as a primary "muse", but was also reminded of their favorite creature, the Mothman. After visiting the Mothman Museum in West Virginia, Holls became enamored with Mothman and other Cryptids (animals that MAY exist in the wild, but whose existence is unproved or disputed). These often surreal creatures have found their way into much of Holls' work as well. When they are not creating, Holls spends their free time running rivers & camping in the backcountry. They are truly happiest when they are outside.

Canyonlands Field Institute

Canyonlands Field Institute (CFI) provides quality outdoor education on the Colorado Plateau to inspire care of wild places and renew the human spirit. CFI's programs are aimed at achieving their vision of a world where the people, wildlife, plants, and waters of the Colorado Plateau are healthy and vibrant.

Holls chose to specifically support CFI's Indigenous Youth Guides with their design. These guides lead land and river trips that help to provide children and adults hands-on, place-based learning about the biodiversity, climate, geography, archaeology, and indigenous cultures of the Colorado Plateau.

BANDITS is honored to team with Holls to support this incredible organization and encourage giving back to the local, regional, and national communities that sustain us, both human and ecological.
