For this collection, we wouldn't be surprised if Alana dreamed up her design while casting her line, knee deep in some actual Pacific Northwest coldwater. "Keystone Species" is rooted in Alana's love of fly fishing, and also her passion for protecting the Pacific Salmon that inhabit the waterways she hold so close to her heart.

A keystone species is an organism that helps define an entire ecosystem. Pacific Salmon, like the 5 species featured in Alana's earthy, throwback design, are such an organism. Alana's design serves not only as a way to honor their importance, but also as a plea to protect them from the effects of over-fishing and disappearing habitats.

Alana Louise
www.alana-louise.com

Alana is a PNW-based artist and rambler who is constantly searching for that long, downstream drift and for places where high desert meets alpine lake. Her soul belongs in the backcountry, where she seeks answers and inspiration but sometimes cuts and bruises – all of which define her coarse and imperfect style. Alana's incredible designs and typography have graced a wide range of brands including YETI, Patagonia, Sub Pop Records, Adobe, Google, and many others. Her detailed, colorful work lends itself to brands (like ours) that encourage enjoyment and conservation of natural landscapes - and we're honored to have worked with Alana now on three amazing bandana designs.

Wild Salmon Center

Wild Salmon Center ("WSC") is an international organization with programmatic activities in Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, California and the Western Pacific. Their conservation efforts focus on wild Salmon, as the most beautiful and important rivers of the North Pacific all depend on salmon and the nutrients they carry inland from the ocean. In the face of industrial development, population increases, and climate change, WSC targets salmon strongholds —the richest, strongest salmon rivers in the Pacific - to protect these rivers while they are still healthy and thriving. WSC focus on the protection of Salmon because they are an iconic and powerful conservation symbol, wild to the core, with an incredible life story. WSC believes that when you protect Salmon, you protect a whole watershed and everything in it, including people. Given Alana's love of fly fishing and being on the rivers, WSC was a natural choice to support with her "Keystone Species" design.
